Location: East of the Ural Mountains in the Tyumen Region of Western
Siberia on the Tamra River, 300 km (185 miles) east of Sverdlovsk.

HISTORY
Tyumen was established over 400 years ago as a small farming and trading
village and was the first Russian town established east of the Ural
Mountains. The Tyumen Region was created in 1944, about the time large oil
and gas reserves were discovered. Upon the establishment of the Region, the
City of Tyumen was named the capital. Tyumen was one of the last places the
Czar visited before his execution.
