About the Relationship:
The city of Houston, Texas and the Grampian Region, Scotland, formalized their “twinning” and became Sister Cities on May 11, 1979. There have been many interchanges on all levels with business delegations to both cities since then. The Houston Grampian Association has several active programs, the primary being a nurses exchange which was founded in 1995 between Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and Houston Baptist University College of Nursing. This two-week program enables peers from each visiting country to understand how nursing care is provided in their Sister City’s country. The program’s participants focus on identifying the perception of health and health care problems in the country visited, and the delivery of health care within the international community.
Each year on the first Saturday of May the Houston Grampian Association holds a pre-Offshore Technology Conference fund-raising business breakfast to promote business links between both cities and provide a networking and educational opportunity for the participants. Funds raised are used to support the student nurses exchange and support other educational charities.
